GhostLyrics' Journal

After a second longish session at #lirc with MaximLevitsky, he finally managed to write a seemingly perfect driver for the remote shipped with my Toshiba laptop. I’m really grateful :)

I’ve updated the corresponding page with the new instructions.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re just dozing on the couch and changing the currently playing song or if you’re giving a nice presentation at work/university, the remote is definitely a nice toy to have.

Guess what? I’m sick of “a wine application” cluttering up nautilus’s open-with dialog a thousand times. Googled a bit and found a nice solution on a mailing list.

You know, every mobile phone company insists on slapping some super-über slow interface on top of our beloved stock Android. This does not only make Android slower and sometimes annoying to handle, but also creates a lot of work for those companies. So there’s been the idea to have the device specific part to some extend also be open-source. I’ve read that over at seifsallam.co.cc. Still, I think it might be even better, if those companies used some sort of version control system which is open to developers. Then the companies in charge might release a new version every two months or so. (We’ve already brought up this idea in the comments…) So, maybe you want to head over to the article and see for yourself.

Update 1: Seif’s page seems to be down. —2010-10-03
Update 2: links removed since domain has been seized by porn industry. :(

After all I DO want multitouch for my desktop.
And I have it by now, but not in the way I thought I would. Have a Macbook Air now.

So I finally kicked the proprietary Nvidia blob from my main machine. I just couldn’t stand it anymore. After over-heating, not playing nice with browser plugins and messing up my beloved docky I moved away from compiz for a while (well, to be precise as long as it takes the nouveau people to get 3D support up, running and stable enough for production use). Switched to metacity. And I’m perfectly fine with that.
Probably the fact, that I have a 360 for gaming helps a bit here. ;)
